How to use
Bernoulli’s equation relates pressure, kinetic and elevation energy terms along a streamline in an ideal-flow model.
- Enter ρ and g.
- Enter P₁, v₁, h₁.
- Enter v₂, h₂.
- Calculate P₂.
How it is calculated
P₁+½ρv₁²+ρgh₁=P₂+½ρv₂²+ρgh₂
Example
At equal elevation, increasing velocity from point 1 to point 2 lowers static pressure in the ideal model.
Important notes
Assumes steady, inviscid, incompressible flow along a streamline with no pumps, turbines or losses between points.
Frequently asked questions
Valid with friction?
Not in this simple form; head loss must be added.
Can P₂ be negative?
Mathematically relative to the chosen pressure reference; it may flag unrealistic assumptions.
Does velocity affect pressure?
Yes through ½ρv².
