Overall Equipment Effectiveness Calculator

Calculate OEE, availability, performance and quality from planned time, stops, ideal cycle time and first-pass good units.

Starting values are an editable worked example.

How to use

Calculate OEE, availability, performance and quality from planned time, stops, ideal cycle time and first-pass good units.

  1. Enter matching-period inputs with consistent units: Planned production time (minutes), Stops within planned time (minutes), Ideal cycle time per unit (seconds), Total units produced, Good units without rework
  2. OEE = availability × performance × quality; OEE% = good units × ideal cycle seconds ÷ (planned minutes × 60) × 100
  3. Calculate, then check data definitions and assumptions in the note before comparing with another period.

How it is calculated

OEE = availability × performance × quality; OEE% = good units × ideal cycle seconds ÷ (planned minutes × 60) × 100

Example

480 planned minutes and 60 stop minutes leave 420 run minutes and 87.5% availability. Producing 700 units with a 30-second ideal cycle gives 83.3333% performance. With 665 good units, quality is 95% and OEE is about 69.2708%.

Important notes

Exclude periods when production was never intended from planned time. Stops include breakdowns and changeovers within that planned time. Quality counts units accepted on their first pass without rework. The ideal cycle is the fastest achievable cycle for the same product; performance above 100% triggers a data error rather than being hidden. Factor calculation needs positive run time and output. OEE is not an overall factory quality rating.

How to check the result

Exclude periods when production was never intended from planned time. Stops include breakdowns and changeovers within that planned time. Quality counts units accepted on their first pass without rework. The ideal cycle is the fastest achievable cycle for the same product; performance above 100% triggers a data error rather than being hidden. Factor calculation needs positive run time and output. Frequently asked questions

Why not add the three percentages?

The factors describe successive losses. Multiply their decimal ratios, then multiply the result by 100.

Do reworked units count as good units?

For this definition, count only units accepted without rework on the first pass, using total output from the same period.

Are the starting inputs my actual data?

They are only the worked example. Replace them with your data and press Calculate. Editing an input clears the old result.
