How to use
Use this calculator when two comparable values have equal status and neither is the original baseline. It measures their absolute gap against the average magnitude of the two values, so swapping A and B gives the same percentage.
- Enter values A and B.
- The calculator finds the absolute gap and the average reference magnitude.
- Read the symmetric percentage difference together with the intermediate values.
How it is calculated
Example
Example: for 50 and 75, the absolute gap is 25 and the reference average is 62.5, so the percentage difference is 25 ÷ 62.5 × 100 = 40%. Swapping the values changes nothing.
Important notes
Do not confuse percentage difference with percentage change. If one value is the old baseline and the other is the new value, use percentage change instead. Mihsaba uses the average absolute magnitude in the denominator so comparisons remain defined for negative values as well.
Frequently asked questions
Is percentage difference the same as percentage change?
No. Percentage difference is symmetric and has no baseline; percentage change measures movement from an original value.
What if both values are zero?
Mihsaba reports 0% because the two values are identical, even though the usual denominator would also be zero.
Can the result exceed 100%?
Yes. Values that are far apart relative to their average magnitude can produce a result above 100%.
Is this calculator free?
Yes. It is free to use and requires no account.
