How to use
Estimate asphalt volume and tonnage from area, compacted thickness, entered density and allowance.
- Enter Area (m²).
- Enter Thickness (cm).
- Enter Density (t/m³).
- Enter Allowance (%).
- Calculate, then review the assumptions before purchasing.
How it is calculated
Example
One hundred square metres at 5 cm thickness plus 5% allowance gives 5.25 m³; at 2.35 t/m³ that is about 12.34 tonnes.
Important notes
Density and design thickness vary by asphalt mix and compaction. Use project or supplier values; this quantity estimate is not a substitute for structural pavement design.
Worked examples and interpreting results
One hundred square metres at 5 cm thickness plus 5% allowance gives 5.25 m³; at 2.35 t/m³ that is about 12.34 tonnes.
| Case | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Volume | 100 × 0.05 × 1.05 | 5.25 m³ |
| Tonnage | 5.25 × 2.35 | 12.3375 |
How to check the result
Density and design thickness vary by asphalt mix and compaction. Use project or supplier values; this quantity estimate is not a substitute for structural pavement design.
Frequently asked questions
Is 2.35 t/m³ a fixed asphalt density?
No. It is only the example value; enter the density specified for your mix or project.
Should I include waste?
Include an allowance when cuts, breakage or layout losses are expected. Use a percentage that fits your project rather than assuming one fixed rate.
Do the units need to match?
Yes. The calculator assumes the units stated beside each field, so convert measurements first when your source uses different units.
