How to use
This free-fall tool models vertical motion with constant downward acceleration. Initial velocity is positive downward; use zero for an object released from rest.
- Enter height.
- Enter downward initial velocity or zero.
- Enter g.
- Review impact time and final velocity.
How it is calculated
h=v₀t+½gt²; v=v₀+gt
Example
Example: released from 20 m at g=9.80665 m/s², impact occurs in about 2.02 s at about 19.8 m/s.
Important notes
The model ignores air resistance and treats g as constant. Light objects, high speeds or large distances can differ significantly.
Frequently asked questions
Is free-fall speed constant?
No; velocity changes under constant acceleration.
Can I change g?
Yes.
Is air drag included?
No.
