How to use

This calculator is for course percentages, not GPA. Enter score-weight pairs for a weighted grade, or work backward to find the final-exam score needed for a target.

  1. Choose weighted grade or needed-on-final mode.
  2. For weighted mode, enter one score, weight pair per line.
  3. For final mode, enter current grade, final weight and target.
  4. Review the result and reachability status.

How it is calculated

G=Σ(score×weight)÷Σweight; needed=(target−current×(1−w))÷w

Example

Scores 80 at weight 40 and 90 at weight 60 produce 86%. If current grade is 85, the final is 20% and target is 88, you need 100% on the final.

Important notes

Weights do not need to sum to 100 because weighted mode normalizes by their total. Letter-grade cutoffs vary by institution, so no universal letter scale is assumed.

Worked examples and interpreting results

To calculate a weighted grade, multiply each score by its weight, sum these products and divide by total weight. Example: scores 85, 92 and 78 with weights 20, 30 and 50.

CaseCalculationResult
Weighted score sum85 × 20 + 92 × 30 + 78 × 508,360
Weighted grade8360 ÷ (20 + 30 + 50)83.6 %
Final needed for 85% (current 80%, final worth 30%)(85 − 80 × 0.7) ÷ 0.396.666667 %

How to check the result

Enter one score and weight per line. For Spanish and French decimal-comma input, separate fields using a semicolon, e.g. 85,5; 20, to avoid ambiguity.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the GPA calculator?

No. GPA is a separate tool based on grade points and credits.

What if weights do not total 100?

The result is normalized by total entered weight.

What does needed over 100% mean?

The target is not reachable from the final alone without extra credit.

What is the difference between simple and weighted averages?

A simple average gives every item equal influence. A weighted average multiplies each grade by its weight or credits and divides by total weight, which is appropriate when assessments have different importance.
