Mihsaba›Heat Conduction Calculator

Heat Conduction Calculator

Estimate steady heat-transfer rate through a flat layer from conductivity, area, temperature difference and thickness, with optional energy over time.

These are ideal thermal/gas models. Real material properties and gases can vary with temperature, pressure and phase.

How to use

The steady 1D flat-layer conduction model uses the simplified Fourier relation to estimate heat rate from k, area, ΔT and thickness.

  1. Enter k and area.
  2. Enter temperature difference and thickness.
  3. Optionally enter hours.
  4. Review watts and energy.

How it is calculated

Q̇=kAΔT/L; Q=Q̇t

Example

Example: k=0.8 W/m·K, A=10 m², ΔT=20 K and thickness 0.2 m gives an ideal 800 W.

Important notes

The model assumes steady state, a homogeneous layer and ideal contact; convection, radiation and thermal bridges are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

What if thickness increases?

Heat rate decreases inversely.

Is k always constant?

Is this a multilayer U-value?

No, one layer only.
