How to use

Area depends only on the two parallel bases and perpendicular height. The inverse modes solve a missing height or base. Perimeter cannot be inferred from bases and height alone, so it is only shown when both legs are supplied and pass a basic geometric validity check.

  1. Choose direct calculation or an inverse height/base mode.
  2. Enter known values in one consistent unit.
  3. In direct mode, optionally add both legs for perimeter.
  4. Calculate and review area, midsegment and solved measurements.

How it is calculated

A=(a+b)h÷2; m=(a+b)÷2; h=2A÷(a+b); b=2A÷h−a

Example

Bases 8 and 12 with height 5 give area 50 and midsegment 10. If area 50 and those same bases are entered in inverse mode, height 5 is recovered.

Important notes

Height is the perpendicular distance between the bases, not a slanted leg. Perimeter requires the actual leg lengths; the tool never silently assumes an isosceles trapezoid.

No. They determine area, not the two leg lengths.

What is the midsegment?

It is the average of the two bases: (a+b)/2.
