MihsabaForce Converter

Force Converter

Convert newtons, kilonewtons, kilogram-force, pound-force, dynes and other force units while clearly separating force from mass.

How to use

The force converter routes values through the newton, the SI force unit. It keeps force and mass separate: kgf and lbf are force units, while kg and lb are mass units and cannot be converted to newtons without an acceleration assumption.

  1. Enter the force value.
  2. Choose source and target units.
  3. Calculate to see the selected conversion plus N, kN, kgf and lbf equivalents.

How it is calculated

Convert through newtons; 1 kgf = 9.80665 N and 1 lbf = 4.4482216152605 N

Example

Example: 100 N is about 10.19716213 kgf and 22.48089431 lbf. One kgf is defined using standard gravity g₀=9.80665 m/s², so 1 kgf equals 9.80665 N.

Important notes

The converter does not silently turn mass into force. A 'kilograms to newtons' problem requires an acceleration; standard gravity is often used as a convention, but actual weight changes with local gravity. The fixed factors here are unit definitions, not local-gravity measurements.

Frequently asked questions

Is kilogram-force the same as kilogram?

No. kg is mass; kgf is force and equals 9.80665 N by definition.

How many newtons are in one pound-force?

1 lbf is about 4.4482216152605 N.

Can negative values be converted?

Yes. Mathematically a negative sign can represent direction along a chosen axis, so the converter preserves it.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. It is free to use and requires no account.
