MihsabaFuel Economy Converter

Fuel Economy Converter

Convert US MPG, Imperial MPG, L/100km, km/L and mi/L with explicit US/UK gallon definitions and reciprocal-safe math.

How to use

This converter normalizes the common ways of expressing fuel economy and consumption: US MPG, Imperial MPG, L/100km, km/L and mi/L. It keeps US and Imperial gallons separate and correctly handles the reciprocal relationship between fuel-per-distance and distance-per-fuel units.

  1. Enter a positive value and choose the unit shown by the vehicle specification or trip display.
  2. Calculate; Mihsaba converts through km/L and returns every supported unit.
  3. Compare the outputs knowing that lower L/100km is better while higher MPG and km/L are better.

How it is calculated

L/100km = 235.214583 ÷ US MPG; L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L; 1 mile = 1.609344 km

Example

30 US MPG ≈ 12.7543 km/L ≈ 7.8405 L/100km. The same physical economy is about 36.028 Imperial MPG because the Imperial gallon is larger.

Important notes

The converter uses 1 mile = 1.609344 km, US gallon = 3.785411784 L and Imperial gallon = 4.54609 L. It converts a stated figure; it does not predict real-world vehicle consumption, which varies with conditions, load and driving style.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 30 US MPG not 30 Imperial MPG?

Because the gallon sizes differ; an Imperial gallon is larger than a US gallon.

Why does L/100km move in the opposite direction?

It measures fuel used over a fixed distance, so lower values mean less fuel consumption.

Can I convert zero L/100km?

No. Zero makes the reciprocal distance-per-fuel value unbounded, so this converter requires a positive input.

Is this calculator free?
