Tip Calculator & Bill Split

Calculate a tip, add optional tax and split the final bill evenly between people.

How to use

Calculate a voluntary tip from the pre-tip bill, add any tax amount already shown on the receipt, and split the final total evenly between people. The tip rate is fully adjustable because tipping customs and service charges vary by country.

  1. Enter the bill amount before tip.
  2. Enter tax as a money amount if it appears separately, or leave it at zero.
  3. Choose the tip rate and number of people, then calculate each person’s share.

How it is calculated

Tip = bill × rate; total = bill + tax + tip; per person = total ÷ people

Example

Example: a 180 bill, 20 tax, a 10% tip on the bill amount, split between two people. The tip is 18, the final total is 218 and each person pays 109.

Important notes

The calculator does not assume that tipping is required or that any rate is appropriate. Check the receipt first because a service charge or automatic gratuity may already be included. Tax is an optional amount added to the total; the tip is calculated from the bill amount entered.

Frequently asked questions

Is the tip calculated on tax?

Not in this calculator. The tip is based on the bill amount you enter, while tax is added separately to the final total.

What if a service charge is already included?

Do not automatically add another percentage. Check the receipt and decide whether any additional voluntary tip is appropriate.

How is the bill split?

Enter the number of people and the calculator divides the final total evenly between them.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. It is free to use and requires no account.
