Brick Quantity Calculator

Estimate brick count from net wall area, brick face dimensions, joint thickness and waste allowance.

Starting values are an editable worked example.

How to use

Estimate brick count from net wall area, brick face dimensions, joint thickness and waste allowance.

  1. Enter Wall area (m²).
  2. Enter Openings (m²).
  3. Enter Brick face length (mm).
  4. Enter Brick face height (mm).
  5. Enter Joint thickness (mm).
  6. Enter Waste (%).
  7. Calculate, then review the assumptions before purchasing.

How it is calculated

Modular face area = (brick length + joint) × (brick height + joint); count = net area × (1 + waste) ÷ modular area

Example

A 30 m² wall with 3 m² of openings, 215×65 mm brick, 10 mm joint and 5% waste needs about 1,680 bricks under the modular-area model.

Important notes

This is an area estimate for one brick leaf. Wall thickness, bond pattern, corners and special cuts can change actual quantities; use the real product and joint dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

Does mortar joint thickness affect the count?

Yes. The entered joint thickness is added to both face dimensions to form the modular area.

Should I include waste?

Include an allowance when cuts, breakage or layout losses are expected. Use a percentage that fits your project rather than assuming one fixed rate.

Do the units need to match?

Yes. The calculator assumes the units stated beside each field, so convert measurements first when your source uses different units.
