How to use
- Enter Freight cost.
- Enter Load tonnes.
- Enter Distance km.
- Calculate, then review units, cost scope and billing rule before comparing.
How it is calculated
Example
A 20-tonne load over 1,200 km equals 24,000 tonne-km; a cost of 3,000 equals 0.125 per tonne-km.
Important notes
This metric assumes the entered load applies across the distance. If load changes by segment, calculate tonne-km per segment and sum them.
Worked examples and interpreting results
| Case | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Tonne-km | 20 × 1200 | 24,000 |
| Cost per tonne-km | 3000 ÷ 24000 | 0.125 |
Frequently asked questions
Can this compare different trucks?
Yes as a general metric when cost scope, load and distance definitions are consistent.
Is the result an actual carrier quote?
No. The calculator applies your inputs mathematically; carriers may use minimums, zones, tiers, fees and different rounding rules.
What matters most before comparing?
Keep units, period and cost scope consistent, and know whether pricing uses actual, dimensional or chargeable weight.
