How to use
Inductive reactance is an ideal inductor’s opposition magnitude to sinusoidal AC and rises linearly with frequency and inductance.
- Enter frequency and unit.
- Enter inductance and unit.
- Optionally enter RMS voltage.
- Review XL, ω and current.
How it is calculated
XL=2πfL; ω=2πf; with RMS voltage: I=V/XL
Example
Example: 100 mH at 60 Hz gives XL≈37.70 Ω.
Important notes
A real inductor has winding resistance, losses and parasitic capacitance; this models ideal inductance.
Frequently asked questions
How does XL change with frequency?
It is directly proportional to f.
XL versus resistance?
Both use ohms, but ideal reactance does not dissipate energy like resistance.
Is µH supported?
Yes.
