How to use
This tool calculates the natural resonant frequency of an ideal LC circuit from inductance and capacitance. At that frequency, inductive and capacitive reactance magnitudes match in the ideal model.
- Enter L and its unit.
- Enter C and its unit.
- Calculate f₀, ω₀ and period.
How it is calculated
f₀=1/[2π√(LC)]; ω₀=1/√(LC); T=1/f₀
Example
Example: L=10 mH and C=1 µF gives a resonant frequency of about 1591.55 Hz.
Important notes
Real resonance is affected by resistance, losses and parasitics; this is the ideal LC equation.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if C increases?
Resonant frequency falls as 1/√C.
Does resistance enter f₀ here?
Not in the ideal LC model.
Are mH and µF supported?
Yes.
