Mihsaba›Transformer Ratio Calculator

Transformer Ratio Calculator

Calculate turns ratio, voltage ratio and secondary current for an ideal transformer, with optional secondary-turn calculation from primary turns.

Results are idealized or estimated; component behavior, temperature, losses and battery discharge curves can change real-world values.

How to use

This calculator uses ideal-transformer relationships between voltage, turns and current. Optional primary current gives ideal secondary current; optional primary turns gives secondary turns.

  1. Enter Vp and Vs.
  2. Enter Ip to calculate Is.
  3. Enter Np to calculate Ns.
  4. Review voltage/turns ratios and optional results.

How it is calculated

Vp/Vs=Np/Ns=Is/Ip for an ideal transformer

Example

Example: 230 V to 12 V gives about 19.17:1. With Np=1000, ideal Ns≈52.17 turns.

Important notes

Real transformers have losses, voltage regulation, current limits and saturation; these ideal ratios do not establish safe transformer design.

Frequently asked questions

Why does secondary current rise when voltage steps down?

Ideal power conservation makes voltage and current ratios inverse.

Must turns be integers?

Physically yes; the decimal result is a theoretical target that must be rounded and rechecked.

Is efficiency included?

No, the model is ideal.
