How to use
- Enter Annual allowance km.
- Enter Lease years.
- Enter Actual distance km.
- Enter Overage fee per km.
- Calculate, then review units and consumption or cost assumptions before comparing.
How it is calculated
Total allowance = annual allowance × years; fee = excess km × fee per km
Example
An allowance of 20,000 km a year for 3 years gives 60,000 km; at 65,000 km the excess is 5,000 and costs 2,500 at 0.5 per km.
Important notes
The lease contract is authoritative and may use miles, tiered fees or exceptions. Enter the actual unit and fee stated in your agreement.
Worked examples and interpreting results
| Case | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Allowance | 20000 × 3 | 60,000 |
| Excess | 65000 − 60000 | 5,000 |
| Fee | 5000 × 0.5 | 2,500 |
Frequently asked questions
What if actual distance is below the allowance?
Excess distance and overage fee are zero in this calculator.
Is the result an estimate or an actual cost?
It is a calculation based on your inputs. Actual prices, consumption and fees can vary by vehicle, route and energy source.
How should two scenarios be compared?
Use the same distance, period and units, and change one variable at a time where possible.
