How to use
- Enter Purchase price.
- Enter Current value.
- Calculate, then review units and consumption or cost assumptions before comparing.
How it is calculated
Depreciation = purchase price − current value; rate = depreciation ÷ purchase price × 100
Example
A purchase price of 120,000 and current value of 90,000 mean a 30,000 loss, equal to 25% of purchase price.
Important notes
Current value is a market estimate, not a guaranteed sale price. Condition, mileage, market and demand can change the actual price.
Worked examples and interpreting results
| Case | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Depreciation | 120000 − 90000 | 30,000 |
| Rate | 30000 ÷ 120000 × 100 | 25 % |
Frequently asked questions
What if the vehicle gained value?
The depreciation amount becomes negative mathematically, representing appreciation instead of loss.
Is the result an estimate or an actual cost?
It is a calculation based on your inputs. Actual prices, consumption and fees can vary by vehicle, route and energy source.
How should two scenarios be compared?
Use the same distance, period and units, and change one variable at a time where possible.
