Tile Quantity and Box Calculator

Estimate tile count and whole boxes from coverage area, tile dimensions, waste allowance and pieces per box, rounding purchases upward.

Starting values are an editable worked example.

How to use

Estimate tile count and whole boxes from coverage area, tile dimensions, waste allowance and pieces per box, rounding purchases upward.

  1. Enter Area (m²).
  2. Enter Tile length (cm).
  3. Enter Tile width (cm).
  4. Enter Waste or extra allowance (%).
  5. Enter Tiles per box.
  6. Calculate, then review the results and method assumptions.

How it is calculated

Tile area = length_cm × width_cm ÷ 10000; tiles = ceil(area × (1 + waste/100) ÷ tile area)

Example

A 20 m² area with 60 × 60 cm tiles and 10% allowance needs 62 tiles. Four tiles per box require 16 boxes containing 64 tiles, with total tile area of 23.04 m².

Important notes

This area estimate does not lay out tiles, grout joints or patterns. Select allowance for cuts and installation. Verify actual dimensions and box coverage, and match color batches before purchasing.

Frequently asked questions

Why can whole boxes contain extra tiles?

The tile count and then box count are rounded upward. The final box can add pieces beyond the required count.

Is 10% allowance always appropriate?

It is an illustrative value only. Layout direction, cutting complexity and tile size affect the allowance; adjust it for your project.

Does the result include purchase cost?

This tool estimates quantities only. Multiply packages or required volume by your actual price, then add transport and other project materials.
