Trip Fuel Cost & Tolls Calculator

Calculate driving fuel cost from distance, consumption and price per litre, plus round-trip distance, tolls and cost per person.

Starting values are an editable worked example.

Choose an example to fill the fields and calculate. Check the measurement units and reporting period.

Try another real calculation

Plan driving cost with tolls and passengers

Enter one-way distance, vehicle consumption and fuel price. Add toll charges for the entire trip and split the result among travellers.

Example: 500 km one way, 8 L/100 km, 2.2 per litre, 20 total tolls and two people: 40 L fuel, 88 fuel cost, 108 total, or 54 each. With return travel, total is 196 if total tolls remain 20.

The round-trip option doubles distance, not tolls. Enter tolls for the entire journey including the return if applicable. Maintenance, insurance and depreciation are excluded; no live fuel price is assumed.

How to use

  1. Enter Distance km.
  2. Enter Consumption L/100 km.
  3. Enter Price per litre.
  4. Calculate, then review units and consumption or cost assumptions before comparing.

How it is calculated

Fuel = distance × L/100 km ÷ 100; cost = fuel × price per litre

Example

A 500 km trip at 8 L/100 km needs 40 litres; at 2.2 per litre the fuel cost is 88.

Important notes

Use realistic trip consumption. Speed, load, traffic and weather can make real-world consumption differ from official figures.

Frequently asked questions

Should I enter one-way distance only?

Enter the total distance you want to fuel; include both directions for a round trip.

Is the result an estimate or an actual cost?

It is a calculation based on your inputs. Actual prices, consumption and fees can vary by vehicle, route and energy source.

How should two scenarios be compared?

Use the same distance, period and units, and change one variable at a time where possible.
