How to use
- Enter Distance km.
- Enter Fuel consumption L/100 km.
- Enter Fuel price per litre.
- Enter EV consumption kWh/100 km.
- Enter Electricity price per kWh.
- Calculate, then review units and consumption or cost assumptions before comparing.
How it is calculated
Example
For 300 km, a vehicle at 8 L/100 km and 2.2/litre costs 52.8; an EV at 18 kWh/100 km and 0.18/kWh costs 9.72, a difference of 43.08.
Important notes
This compares energy only. It excludes purchase price, depreciation, insurance, maintenance and fixed charging fees, so it is not total ownership cost.
Worked examples and interpreting results
| Case | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel vehicle | 300 × 8 ÷ 100 × 2.2 | 52.8 |
| EV | 300 × 18 ÷ 100 × 0.18 | 9.72 |
| Difference | 52.8 − 9.72 | 43.08 |
Frequently asked questions
Does this mean the EV is always cheaper?
No. The result applies only to the entered trip-energy assumptions and excludes other ownership costs.
Is the result an estimate or an actual cost?
It is a calculation based on your inputs. Actual prices, consumption and fees can vary by vehicle, route and energy source.
How should two scenarios be compared?
Use the same distance, period and units, and change one variable at a time where possible.
