How to use
- Enter Distance km.
- Enter Fuel used litres.
- Calculate, then review units and consumption or cost assumptions before comparing.
How it is calculated
Km/L = distance ÷ fuel used
Example
Travelling 500 km on 40 litres gives 12.5 km/L, equivalent to 8 L/100 km.
Important notes
For km/L, a higher number means more distance per litre. Do not compare it directly with L/100 km without accounting for the inverse relationship.
Worked examples and interpreting results
| Case | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Km/L | 500 ÷ 40 | 12.5 |
| L/100 km | 100 ÷ 12.5 | 8 |
Frequently asked questions
Is a higher number better?
For km/L, yes in fuel-use terms because the vehicle travels farther per litre.
Is the result an estimate or an actual cost?
It is a calculation based on your inputs. Actual prices, consumption and fees can vary by vehicle, route and energy source.
How should two scenarios be compared?
Use the same distance, period and units, and change one variable at a time where possible.
